SC&P #06: Zeiss Ikonta 521…

SC&P #06: Zeiss Ikonta 521…

This was a lovely film to shoot, totally random with no specific aims, exactly what I needed. This was shot on the wonderful Zeiss Ikonta Model 521 with the 75mm Nova 4.5 lens mounted in a Prontor shutter; the camera dates approximately 1940 & takes 120 medium format roll film giving you 16 shots at 6cm x 4.5cm. If you can handle using a helicoid focus ring then this camera is a treat. The folding mechanism of this camera is marvellous, once closed it makes one very nice compact medium format camera system. Just remember to pack your light meter or just go with the sunny 16 rule.

I have added a few more images to this edit as I quite like the stillness and composition of the portraits at the coffee tables. This may develop into a project following suit after some photographers who factor in a preset measurement into their composition. For this I may only compose and focus at a set distance of 3ft and only photograph at coffee tables, who knows…

    Thank you Russell:

This page was inspirational. Besides your superb photographs here and elsewhere, your lead sentence, was, as you said, "… exactly what I needed." I've recently had the pleasure of shooting 120 with similar (small and well-made) 1940's and 50's German folders. What fun!
